Removal Instructions for VBS.NewLove.A
4Help provides these instructions to assist you
in the removal of this computer virus. If these instructions do not remove
the virus from your system, then 4Help recommends that you contact your computer
vendor. The use of up-to-date anti-virus software will help prevent your
computer from becoming infected with viruses.
What you need to complete these
instructions:

infected computer

Virus removal:
Overview:
- Update your virus definitions
- Scan your computer with Norton Antivirus
- Scan your computer with the FixLove tool
- You MUST print these instructions before you proceed with the virus removal. You will need the printed instructions because your computer may not boot into Windows during parts of the repair process.
- Select 'Print...' from the 'File' menu.
- Update your anti-virus software:
- If you are using Norton Anti-Virus, run LiveUpdate.
- You must scan your computer with a virus scanner using the latest virus
definitions.
- If you don't run a virus scan before using this repair tool, you will
receive warning boxes displaying the infected files on your computer.
- If you receive these virus warnings, choose to delete the infected
files.
- Download the 'Fixlove.exe' tool to a floppy disk by clicking here.
- Choose 'Save this program to disk' if you're prompted.
- Select your A: drive from the 'Save in:' pull-down list.
- Click 'Save'.
- Click 'Start/Run...' to open the 'Run' dialog box.
- Type a:\fixlove.exe in the 'Open:' text
box.
- Click 'OK' to run the tool.
- A dialogue box will appear asking you if you want to continue with the
removal process.
- Click 'Remove!' if you want to continue.
- Click 'Cancel' if you want to stop the process.
- The tool will begin scanning your computer for the 'VBS.LoveLetter' virus.
NOTE: This scan may take several minutes on some computers.
- If your computer is not infected then the tool will display a dialog box
at the end of the scan that says 'Your computer was not infected with the
LoveLetter!'.
- Click 'OK' to close the dialog box.
- After the scan is finished, restart your computer so the changes can take
effect.
- If your computer was infected with the virus then after the scan your
default Internet Explorer home page will be set to:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/repair_instruct.html
- To change the home page select 'Internet Options...' from the 'Tools'
pull-down menu.
- Under the section 'Home Page', type in your desired start-up page in
the 'Address:' text box.
- Click 'OK' to save the changes.
